Christmas cookies...

Pssst....
{I have a little confession to make}

I have a HUGE obsession with
sugar cookies.

I LOVE
SUGAR COOKIES....

I LOVE RECIPES OF
SUGAR COOKIES....

but most of all,

I LOVE PICTURES OF
SUGAR COOKIES....

For the past several years I've been collecting sugar cookie pictures and recipes.
There is NOTHING more beautiful than a decorated sugar cookie! {in my opinion}

Here are a "few" from my collection.
I only WISH I could decorate a cookie like this...
What a beautiful work of art!

Aren't they GORGEOUS?
Last week I participated in the most amazing
Christmas cookie exchange.
I was breathing heavy and my heart was racing with excitement.... I only wish I were exaggerated!

Here is a picture of the festive table and my recipe for
Candy Cane Blossoms
This is another type of sugar cookie with a Hershey's white chocolate mint kiss in the middle.

{Lil Brynner's.... BUSTED}

Candy Cane Blossoms
48 Kisses candy cane mints
1 stick butter, softened
1 Cup sugar
1 egg
1 ½ t. vanilla
2 Cups flour
¼ t. baking soda
¼ t. salt
2 T. milk
Red and Green sugar crystals
1. Heat oven to 350. Remove wrappers from candies.
2. Beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl until well blended. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; add alternately with mil to butter mixture, beating until well blended.
3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in red or green sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
4. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and cookie is set. Remove from oven; cool 2-3 minutes. Press a candy piece into center if each cookie. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
Makes about 4-dozen.

Here are some of my favorite sugar cookie recipes...
ENJOY!

Favorite sugar cookies
1 C. butter
1 ½ C. sugar
2 eggs
3 T. sour cream
½ t. vanilla
½ t. baking soda
¼ t. salt
3 ¼ C. flour
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, sour cream, almond and vanilla and mix well.
Add soda, salt and flour and mix on low just until combined. Roll dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 3-4 hours. (I never do this and they turn out great) Roll out on floured surface and cut into shapes. Bake on un-greased cookie sheets at 375 for 6-8 minutes.
Frosting
4 C. powdered sugar (about ½ of a 2lb. bag)
1/3 C. butter
¼ C. milk
½ t. vanilla
½ t. almond extract
In mixing bowl, beat butter slowly with powdered sugar. Add milk and continue to beat. Add vanilla, almond extract and salt. If needed, add more milk to make frosting spreading consistency. Color with food coloring if desired.

1 cup butter; room temperature

2 cups sugar

4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla

5 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg. Add vanilla & mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt & soda & stir with a whisk to combine. Add to wet mixture and mix just until combined. Spread on a greased baking sheet (use a 13 x 18 pan).

Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 min, until light golden brown or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely and frost.

Frosting

1/2 cup butter; room temperature

1/2 cup shortening

1 tsp vanilla

pinch of salt

4 cups powdered sugar

5 Tbsp milk

food coloring (if desired)

Combine butter and shortening until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla and salt. Add powdered sugar in 1-2 cup increments until combined, then add milk & mix until smooth and spreading consistency. Spread over cooled cookie.

Super Sugar Cookies
COOKIES:

3/4 cup margarine

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon real vanilla extract

2 eggs

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder
1. Cream margarine and sugar well.
2. Add vanilla and eggs; combine well.
3. In separate bowl, sift the baking powder, salt and flour. Add to wet ingredients slowly until thoroughly combined.
4. Cookie dough must be chilled until firm, or overnight.
5. Remove dough from fridge and roll out to a 1/4-inch thickness.
6. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
7. With cookie cutters or rim of drinking glass, cut out cookies.
8. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, depending on oven. Check often to prevent over cooking or burning. Cool on baking rack when done.
9. Meanwhile, prepare frosting – it’s a MUST for these cookies! (go all the way or not at all)
FROSTING

1 teaspoon real vanilla

1 stick real butter

4 cups powdered sugar

1 Tablespoon cream or whole milk
10. Cream butter, milk and vanilla together.
11. Slowly add powdered sugar to butter until desired consistency. If you’d like, add liquid food coloring for festive cookies
***I had some trouble with the icing and needed to add a little more milk to thin it out and make it spreadable, but I may have done something wrong ***

12. When cookies are cooled, slather this heavenly frosting. For more texture and color, press the top of the cookie in sprinkles, colored sugar or just eat plain

Happy BAKING!

Ugly Christmas sweater party....

Our Crazy friends, The Smith's, hosted an
"Ugly Sweater Christmas Party"
last weekend for some of Joe's high-school friends.
What a riot these 2 kids are and what a great time we had!
We ate an amazing dinner, played bingo, opened gifts and laughed our heads off.
I'm pretty sure they still think they're in high-school.

{Matt & Suzy Smith -host & hostess}
Joe's sweater came in 2nd place...
thanks to Wendy Pearson for doctoring it up with embellishments!
{Steve & Merillee Gottfredson}
{Al & Kristen Westenskow}
The winner of the "Ugliest Sweater" goes to.....
TJ Buxton
Congratulations!
He was awarded a gorgeous "Ugly Sweater" trophy.... such an honor!
This is the crew of Ugly Sweaters.
Joe started itching and breaking out in hives from his sweater,so he took it off. I felt so bad and didn't want him to feel left out, so I took mine off as well.
I know.... what a good wife right?
